Yoga in Montauk: Witnessing the Seasons of My Soul
by Cathy McGuireThe tide goes in, the tide goes out.
The wave rises, the wave comes to shore.
The sun comes in, the sun sets.
New moon…full moon.
Begin again.
I breathe in, I breathe out.
Life pulsates.
Living on a hill in Montauk I am blessed to have a home with large windows. The outside comes in. I am witnessing nature in all her glory. Every day the view is different. The only constant is change.
As I practice my Yoga, I observe the rhythm of my breath. I take time to observe my body from the inside out. I am a loving witness of my body as I flow from asana to asana. I do not push or struggle. No forcing. Can I hold back the ocean? Can I stop the leaves from falling? Can I prevent the return of winter?
As I age I realize that I am part of this amazing universe. I change with the seasons. Mother Nature demonstrates acceptance. She embraces the beauty in every stage. As she gracefully moves from fall into winter I nurture the seasons of my own soul.
